Hey guys,
I know a lot of you are getting angry and frustrated about Xflame/Xfire not working - but believe me when I say it’s more frustrating to have an entire user base counting on you when you just don’t have the time to be able to help them.
There a multitude of things at work here, I don’t have much time to put towards this project, I don’t know enough about the Xfire protocol to be able to make quick fixes, etc etc.
My suggestion for now is to check out MacFire if you haven’t already. MacFire’s developer, Archon — you may have met him in the forums — is very capable and has written a strong, stable, feature filled client for Xfire on OS X.
It’s my personal opinion that MacFire is a far better product than Xflame or Xblaze and because of that, I would really like to work together with Archon rather than trying to ‘compete’ with a separate client. I have talked with Archon, and made some small contributions to MacFire, but nothing is official or set in stone at all.
I’m not abandoning Xflame/Xblaze, and I have made the source available if anyone wants to do something with it.
I don’t want to give anybody false hope, so what I’m trying to say is not to expect any updates to Xblaze/Xflame anytime soon.
As always, thank you for your continued loyalty and support, Xblaze/Xflame would be nothing without you guys.
As promised, the SVN repo for Xblaze and Xflame is once again public. Feel free to check it out.

Hey guys, Xfire made an update which pretty much killed Xflame and Xblaze.
Long story short: It’s buggered.
Long story long: The time has come to lay XfireLib to rest and move onto bigger, brighter, better things. That means that from this point forward, I will start work on rewriting Xflame using the new OpenFire-C library. However, I was hoping that the version of Xflame using XfireLib would still be usable while I was work on the new client, so you guys would still have something to use… But it seems that is not the case. Unless the developers of XfireLib release a fix (which is highly unlikely at this stage).
Xblaze (for Adium) probably won’t receive as much attention as I give to Xflame. It would be nice to try and keep them in sync, but I’m only one man. If anyone feels capable enough to take on the development of Xblaze, give me a shout and we’ll talk. Else Xblaze willbe updated after I get some work done on Xflame.
Thanks, guys.
Thanks to Bensawsome we now have an IRC channel. It’s on freenode with the name #xblaze. #xflame redirects to #xblaze.
Pop in for some real-time support or just to chat.
Hey guys,
Been doing a small amount of work on Xflame. Just some minor fixes:
- Changed the buddylist and games list styles
- Prevent opening a chat window for an offline buddy
- Sorting! (Yay!) You can sort by status (online/offline), by name, or by status message (AFK, gamename, etc)
- Fixed the positioning of the typing notification message in resized chat windows
Download it here!
As usual, this is a pre-alpha product, use at your own risk, etc etc etc. And again, please do not post this to version tracking sites such as Version Tracker or Macupdate. If this gets onto those sites, I’ll be forced to take down the download links. Thanks, and enjoy.
Update:
The Forum is back up and accepting signups.
Sorry guys, but over the weekend I was informed that the forum was invaded by spam bots. They were like nothing I’ve ever seen before, instead of just flooding the forum with URLs to spam, they actually posted content filled posts full of porn….
not good.
I went though and cleaned it all up, and removed all the spambot users, but they just kept coming back, like a swarm of locusts. So I’ve taken the forum down for the time begin.
I’ll be getting another one back up before long, so sit tight.
I’m really sorry guys, but you’re going to have to bear with me. These last couple of months have been absolutely hectic for me and I’ve had no time to put towards Xblaze. I’m really sorry.
As my gift to you, I’m putting out a small pre-release of Xflame. An Alpha if you will… It’s not going to be rock solid, and it’ll likely be rather slow and un-optimised. But it gives you an idea of what’s going on behind the scenes and it also gives you a way to still use Xfire without having to hang back with Adium 1.2.7.
Now keep in mind that this is an ALPHA. If anything it’s not even that. There WILL be bugs. There WILL be annoyances. By downloading and using Xflame, you’re agreeing not to hold me liable for any damage it does to your computer or the data stored on it. You use Xflame at your own risk.
Also, what you will see and will be using is an old prototype of what Xflame was to become. Please remember that Xflame is still under the process of being re-written from the ground up to use a new Xfire Protocol Library. A lot of what you see WILL be different the next time you see Xflame. So please try not to complain too much about missing features or broken features - they will be coming sometime in the future.
Finally, and I think this is going to annoy some people…. Xflame requires OS X 10.5 Leopard. Since 68% of Xblaze visitors are using Leopard. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem, I hope. And those 28% of Tiger users and 2% of Panther users… get with the times
.
As always, the forum is available for help.
If you think you can handle all of that: Download Xflame-01.a.
One last thing, please DO NOT submit this to sites like Version Tracker, MacUpdate or anything else. If that happens, I will be forced to remove the download. You’ll only be shooting yourself in the foot.
Hey guys,
I was afraid this day would come. Adium 1.3 beta was just released and it seems that Xblaze no longer works with it. I’ve been doing some initial digging and from what I can see, some things have changed in the plugin architecture which breaks some things in XBlaze.
The advice I’ll give for now is to not upgrade to 1.3 just yet. I’ll see what I can do about getting a fix out soon.
Hey guys,
I’ve just thrown up a quick poll over on the Polls page. I’d appreciate it if you could just go over and submit which version of OS X you’re using.
Thanks!
Hey guys,
Just released XBlaze 0.8.5.
This release fixes a crash upon creation of a new account when using Adium 1.2.0.
It also contains some icon and games list updates.
If you made any changes to your macgames.txt file then I suggest you back it up before upgrading as it’ll get overwritten.
