Who Is He?

So you might be wondering who I am exactly.
Well without revealing too much, I’m a 20 year old student living in Wales, UK. My name is James and I’m currently in my second year studying BSc (hons) Computing at University Of Wales, Newport.

Brief History

I first became interested in computers after I had my first computer given to me around 10 years ago. Back then I never used it for anything other than games and homework and I didn’t discover the Internet until 3 years later.
Even then, I only ever used it for gaming and homework. I don’t know about anyone else, but I guess the urge to find out more about these machines just takes hold after using a computer for so long. It was from there onwards that I discovered how computers work, how the internet works, how to build your own websites, how to build custom systems and eventually computer programming.

I was a Windows user for many years until sometime between 1999 and 2001 where I took my first steps into the world of Linux. From there I was never a single OS user, I always had more than one OS on the go, either in Dual Boot setups, or even on separate machines. It was then that I became interested in setting up my own home network.
With the help of the Network Admin at my school I was able to get a small network up and running and used Windows Internet Connection Sharing to share my connection.

Converting To Mac

About 2 years ago I became very interested in the enthusiast side of computing and played a lot of games. I took pride in the system I constructed, an AMD Athlon FX-57, dual Geforce 7800 GTX’s, etc. I was a believer in the phrase “You get what you pay for”. And it would come as no surprise that the aforementioned system amounted to a substantial amount of money. Unfortunately, be it bad luck, or just faulty components I had nothing but trouble with the system. A never ending flurry of Blue Screens, program crashes, game freezes and unexplainable restarts. I RMA’d almost every component in the system and there was no improvement. I then threw out my motherboard and invested in a Shuttle small form factor system, and experienced the exact same problems - even though every component in the system was new. I RMA’d the shuttle twice, and the RAM twice, and still had problems.
It was then that I bought an iMac. I had owned the Mac Mini previously, but wanted a more powerful system than the mini.
I have never looked back. I love the Mac, I love OS X, I love Apple.
