I’m really sorry guys, but you’re going to have to bear with me. These last couple of months have been absolutely hectic for me and I’ve had no time to put towards Xblaze. I’m really sorry.
As my gift to you, I’m putting out a small pre-release of Xflame. An Alpha if you will… It’s not going to be rock solid, and it’ll likely be rather slow and un-optimised. But it gives you an idea of what’s going on behind the scenes and it also gives you a way to still use Xfire without having to hang back with Adium 1.2.7.
Now keep in mind that this is an ALPHA. If anything it’s not even that. There WILL be bugs. There WILL be annoyances. By downloading and using Xflame, you’re agreeing not to hold me liable for any damage it does to your computer or the data stored on it. You use Xflame at your own risk.
Also, what you will see and will be using is an old prototype of what Xflame was to become. Please remember that Xflame is still under the process of being re-written from the ground up to use a new Xfire Protocol Library. A lot of what you see WILL be different the next time you see Xflame. So please try not to complain too much about missing features or broken features - they will be coming sometime in the future.
Finally, and I think this is going to annoy some people…. Xflame requires OS X 10.5 Leopard. Since 68% of Xblaze visitors are using Leopard. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem, I hope. And those 28% of Tiger users and 2% of Panther users… get with the times ![]()
.
As always, the forum is available for help.
If you think you can handle all of that: Download Xflame-01.a.
One last thing, please DO NOT submit this to sites like Version Tracker, MacUpdate or anything else. If that happens, I will be forced to remove the download. You’ll only be shooting yourself in the foot.
I know school can be a bummer. I sincerely hope you can find it in your heart (and schedule) to keep developing this awesome plugin. Have you thought about collaborating with anyone, because I heard the source wasn’t open for public use. That might help if you really would like to see this thing get off the ground. I am just one of many loyal Xblaze users, that don’t want to see it die!
Heh, it’s not school anymore, I’m way past that. I’ve graduated from uni, gotten a degree and found a job, moving into a new house in the next two weeks etc, etc, etc.
The source for XBlaze/Xflame was previously available, but recently its been taken down until further notice because it’s using some new code that isn’t under a full release license just yet. But as soon as the new code is completed, it’ll be put back up.
Thank you for posting this update. You are entitled to take as much time as you need with Xblaze since, well, life happens.
I think I speak for all the users of this wonderful plug-in when I say thank you for your continued work.
OMG Xflame is AWSOME. Personally I think you should stop developing Xblaze and continue with Xflame
And for me it works well I have only found one very minor bug which doesn’t affect the operation of the program. Just a tiny GUI problem.
Thanks,
Bensawsome
Benawesome,
Would you kindly explain what this ‘tiny GUI problem’ is? You’re a bit sparse on details
Hey besides lacking a lot of features, xflame looks like it’s coming along very well! You should continue to work on both xblaze and xflame, they are both awesome and because they are very different things, aside the purpose of both, they will both be very successful with providing xfire to us Mac users!
Thanks for this sneak peak!
I, for one, hope you continue to update both programs (although I know how hard it is to find time between work to actually do anything for ‘fun’). Although I have a PC sitting right beside my Mac, I prefer to use XBlaze simply because it allows me to consolidate my various messaging identities into a single client. Plus, Adium’s ability to be user-configured just means that mine looks prettier and more personalized than most of the XFire skins out there.

Great job! Keep up the good work!
Quick question, are you implying that you have heard in some cases where people lost data because of Xblaze.
In my opinion, progress should keep being made on XBlaze or a mac version o XFire that is compatible with OSX10.4. I understand all the technical Darwinism and the need to “to get with the times,” but to do that would cost money that I do not have. So don’t kill my species off just yet please, Jasarien.
@llama5492
No, I haven’t heard of any cases where this has happened, and its entirely unlikely, since Xflame doesn’t touch your filesystem. I’m just covering my ass!
@unsichtbarDrache
I understand that some people can’t always upgrade. As long as Adium is Tiger compatible, Xblaze will be too. It’s just a question of if and when I can get a fix out for the later versions. (They’ve really gone and changed the way plugins work completely…).
